Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care Setting

This course is for educators and support staff working within an education and care setting including
childcare and schools who may be required to respond to a first aid emergency.
This unit of competency has been approved by ACECQA and meets the requirements of “First Aid, Asthma & Anaphylaxis”.

Course Duration: 9 Hours (WITH PRE COURSE HOME-WORK ACTIVITY)

  • Identification and control of Dangers
  • Infection Control
  • Basic anatomy & physiology of chest, airway, Breathing, consciousness
  • Management of the Unconscious Casualty
  • Basic Life Support – DRSABCD
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation – Adult, Child & Infant
  • Communication of Incident Details
  • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator – AED
  • Legal, Workplace & community considerations
  • State/territory regulations, codes of practice
  • Heart Attack / Stroke
  • Poisons, Bites & Stings
  • Fractures, Dislocation, Sprain and Strain
  • Spinal Injury / Head injury / Chest injury /
  • Temperature related conditions / Burns
  • Diabetes / Epilepsy / Febrile convulsions / Fainting / Drowning
  • Debriefing / Stress Management / Psychological impact on Children

Qualification

After successful completion of the course, the candidate will receive a Statement of Attainment for
HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting

Certificate Currency

It is recommended by Education & Care services bodies, Worksafe Australia and the Australian
Resuscitation council that First Aid training be undertaken every 3 years and CPR refresher training every
12 months.

Entry Requirements

There are NO pre-requisites for this course however it is recommended that Learners have Literacy &
Numeracy competencies equivalent to Australian Core skills Framework Level 3. This requires a candidate
to be able Locate and interpret workplace policies and procedures and to accurately communicate incident
details both verbally and in written form. Learners should be perform CPR on the floor and be able to
provide effective chest compressions.
