TRAUMA – BLEEDING AND WOUND MANAGEMENT

WOUNDS / INJURIES
Background
Bleeding may occur as the result of trauma to the body with either blunt force, sharp objects or through penetrative injury. The bleed is likely to be Internal or External and is some cases both. Wounds include:Incision (cut) – fairly neat cut caused by something sharp eg knife

Laceration – rough damage to the skin often caused by sharp irregular object or by blunt force trauma

Abrasion – (graze) – scraping of the skin against rough surfaces

Puncture – usually caused by sharp objects penetrating the skin and underlying tissue. A deep penetrative injury to any part of the torso is likely to cause serious internal injury

Avulsion – tearing open of the skin, usually through severe impact or trauma from irregular sharp objects

Contusion – (bruise) discoloration of the underlying tissue caused by impact from a blunt force

Blunt force trauma –  Blunt force trauma or impact to the body or Torso may lead to serious internal bleeding.
