TRAUMA – BLEEDING AND WOUND MANAGEMENT

EMBEDDED OBJECTS

Recognition

Usually the result of an accident where a person might stand on glass with bear feet or fall onto a sharp object. In some cases this may be the result of violence such as a stabbing. If the object remains deeply embedded in the tissue, then we should adopt the indirect pressure technique.

Management

  • Objects that are deeply embedded into the body should not be removed as this can cause more harm.
  • Indirect pressure should be applied by wrapping dressings around the object and applying pressure
  • The donut bandage technique can be used to apply the indirect pressure
  • This will support the object and help minimize more blood loss both internally and externally.
  • rest & reassure the casualty & seek medical assistance
